Anthony and the Interesting Biscuit For her last 14 years, Ant’s mother was in a nursing home near Bath. Every week Ant made the considerable journey down the M4 and his visit was greatly enhanced by the afternoon teas provided for visitors. He would visit the kitchens to check that everything was being organised properly and do a tour of the home like an inspector. Regrettably, problems with his mother’s care began to crop up mainly due to the attitude and behaviour of the proprietor. The family complained to management before going into a formal procedure at higher levels and one letter from Ant included the words ‘you cannot even provide an interesting biscuit!’ From that day the ‘interesting biscuit’ became a family legend and when we say ‘interesting’, that means extravagantly interesting. We still give each other this gift and Sandie’s excellent box, brought down for Thomas and Jane only last Sunday, is being much enjoyed.
